‘We are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit’ (2 Cor 3:18)
We are being transformed into Christ’s likeness. What was Christ like? Christ never sinned. He was pure and holy, He loved people, He was compassionate and He was prepared to serve others. At the same time He was obedient to His Father and put God’s honour first. That meant that He not only healed people, fed them and showed His care for them but He was also angry at the sin He saw in the world and spoke out against hypocritical attitudes.
We started life as sinners. We did what we wanted and we put ourselves first. When we were saved by God’s grace, our sinful nature was put to death and we began to live by the Spirit. The Spirit is transforming us and our lives are showing the fruit of the Spirit. Our lives are showing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The characteristics are not ones that we see around us in this world. The world still opposes God. People who are part of this world do not want to know God or submit to His rule. But those of us who belong to Christ are different. We are not perfect yet but we are being changed. As we live for Christ we do everything to the glory of God. May people look at us now and see that we are becoming like Jesus.
